» a rather sweet musical spot

between Massive Attack and early Nine Inch Nails,

managing to be accessible but with a dark and menacing edge.

Brilliant stuff. «

SONICONOCLASM

FOLK DJ'S ARMED WITH

TECHNOLOGY

SONICONOCLASM are a Berlin based experimental hip hop / electronica band. They follow a path that has been laid out in the respective work of its creators as artists and producers: eerie loops and found footage samples, cinematic sound- scapes, lo-fi sound fragments, cut up lyrics and hook-lines are all blended together into a dark, broken, glitched, detuned version of a hit record with epic dimensions.

to be ‘in the mood’.
It’s a form of art when a song can
put you in said mood - whether you like it or not. «

ON WRITING AND PRODUCING
SONICONOCLASM
(Berlin, 2017)

SONICONOCLASM – my first field trip into electronic music / experimental hip hop in close collaboration with my friend, the vocalist and drummer Markus F.C. Buhl. The tracks became unexpectedly dark. But what else could they become in times like these?

Songs from the transit zone between a grotesque corporate paradise and a broken world, where frag-ments of unborn hooks are stumbling around with hearts full of noise.

But every now and then there’s some light, like from a distant, foggy sun like melancholic euphoria.

A personal faint memory of a different future – beyond surveillance capitalism, mind bending propaganda, unbearable narcissism, hysterical hypocrisy, endless greed, witch hunts and constant unwanted updates of everything, including my fridge, forced upon us frequently.

A personal faint memory of a better future without really knowing how to keep dreaming it – I have to admit – but with a strong faith in all these amazing people and their beautiful minds that I can see everywhere.

PRESS AND REVIEWS
(DEBUT, 2017)

» A big up for this tune,

it’s amazing.

I love the ambience personally, the vibe completely

catches me «

(CLOUD KID on “SHE'S MUSIC”)

» Neat concept and

executed in such a dark

manner as to leave quite

 few listeners checking

the cuPboards

before they go to bed

I’m sure.[...]

I’ll applaud the invention

but run screaming from

the PC screen following

this viewing.”«

(mp3hugger on video “Broken Motor”)

» “Well this is fucking rad.

Would love a copy

of the lyrics

though as I have

no idea what you guys

are saying.

Thanks!” «

BROKEN MOTOR

(VIDEO, 2017)

» Today just one video that isn’t Street Art.

But it is the street. And it is art. «

THE STORY OF THE

MUSIC VIDEO
FOR
» BROKEN MOTOR «

The music video for the track “Broken Motor” by the Berlin based project “SONICONOCLASM” was shot on two separate nights on the streets of Berlin.

This experimental hip hop track is a statement against conformity and the loss of individuality and diversity. The video consists of more than 25 different people performing the song spontaneously, shot in an extreme close up: a colorful cross section of Berlin nightlife, far beyond hype and hipsters.

This suspenseful individuality of the people is almost completely dissolved in the chorus. Following the so-called “Eigenface”-process of facial recognition, all the portraits are visually interpolated, creating an androgynous, hybrid Big-Data-face.
